On July 4th 232 years ago, a group of 56 men gathered together to sign their names to a piece of paper that would give birth to what would eventually become the greatest nation on earth. The men who signed this document were not perfect – in fact in many ways they were just ordinary people who recognized that there was a problem that needed to be solved. The difference was that they were able to summon the vision and courage to do what needed to be done. The document they signed on that fateful day is known as The Declaration of Independence.

The second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence famously states that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." You will notice in the previous sentence the use of the terms "created" and "Creator". It is readily evident that these terms could only refer to God. But have you ever considered why these words are important within the context of the Declaration of Independence? The reason is that God has blessed us with Free Will – and without Free Will, the concepts of Life, Liberty and Happiness mean very little. In fact, freedom is not even possible without Free Will. Freedom and free will give us the ability to make choices, and the responsibility to make wise choices within the framework of a moral consciousness.

No man is without sin, and government is a product of man - therefore, no government can be free from sin, and is inherently less than perfect. So it could be said then that any failures of our government are a reflection of failures of the men who run it, and of the people who have elected those men to represent them. God recognizes that we are not perfect, but expects us to recognize our wrong doings, to learn from them, and to make efforts to correct them. To deny ourselves the celebration of our nation's independence would be to deny the fact that we are less than perfect, and to deny that we have within us the ability to change our ways, and to make a positive difference in this world. If our Founding Fathers had not understood this basic concept, then their challenge to the British State would have been rendered meaningless.

As both individuals and as a nation, we WILL make mistakes - We WILL recognize the error of our ways – and we MUST take action to make wise decisions that will result in POSITIVE changes for our country and throughout the world.

So, 232 years after the signing of the Constitution, We The People of this great nation once again find ourselves in a situation where we have a problem that must be solved - and WE must be the ones to summon the courage and vision to do what needs to be done! We must make it clearly evident to everyone in government that we STILL BELIEVE that all men are created equal, and that we STILL have certain unalienable Rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness! We must bring about meaningful change by returning to the basic values and principles that have made this country great - and have kept it free for well over two centuries.

The nine principles are:
* America is good.
* I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
* I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
* The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
* If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
* I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
* I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
* It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
* The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

The 12 values are:
* Honesty
* Reverence
* Hope
* Thrift
* Humility
* Charity
* Sincerity
* Moderation
* Hard Work
* Courage
* Personal Responsibility
* Friendship

So, at this time we must take a moment to reflect upon the people and events in America's history that have made numerous sacrifices to ensure and defend the rights and life style we all enjoy today - and we must reflect upon these things knowing that this great country was founded and built by flawed and imperfect men that had the ability to recognize their weaknesses, and the courage to confront them. Finally we must ask ourselves if we have those same qualities. I believe that MOST of us do, and that together we can bring about meaningful and lasting change that will return ownership of this country to it's rightful owners - We The People!
